PSOJ ENDORSES NATIONAL CLEAN UP DAY PROJECT
The PSOJ endorses the National Clean Up Day Project and appeals to all Jamaicans to support this effort in every way possible. The Project, scheduled for this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, September 29 – 30, 2007, has been planned to galvanise the support of the entire nation in cleaning up Jamaica in the aftermath of Hurricane Dean.
We commend those members and other entities which have pledged resources and support for the Project. We comment the petroleum marketing companies, which together, have committed over $1.5 million of petroleum fuel to this cause and the major media houses (Gleaner Company, Jamaica Observer, Sunday Herald, CVM TV, Hot 102, the RJR/TVJ Group and Power 106 and Music 99 FM), the National Commercial Bank Foundation, Jamaica Broilers, World Brands Services, Kiwanis Club of New Kingston, Red Stripe and CPTC have also made significant contributions, as have other private sector entities. The PSOJ urges all Jamaicans to support this effort as we work together to achieve renewed civic pride in our communities.
President of the PSOJ, Christopher Zacca, noted that the planning meetings held during the past week, have been a strong indication that this two-day event will be successful. He continued, “I have been impressed with the commitment and the spirit of cooperation displayed by all the stakeholders and this initiative is a powerful and practical example of a true social partnership”.
The PSOJ urges companies to mobilize their staff and in so doing, we encourage that provisions be made for transportation to the proposed work site(s) and for food and drink.
The Parish Council (Disaster Coordinator) in each parish will be the coordinating entity for this project and organizations, churches and members of the public should contact their Parish Council for information regarding projects being undertaken and/or to pledge manpower or other resources. For Kingston, the respective agency is the Kingston & St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) - Disaster Coordinator.
clean and healthy environment must be a priority for all of us . Through our united efforts and the commitment of every Jamaican to this national project, we can enhance the beauty of our island, Jamaica, Land We Love.
